From the lead expert
I realized the need of developing a resource portal for foreign investors and expats quite some time ago. This was after my interactions with accounting firms and businesses outside Nepal who struggled getting up-to-date and accurate information about Nepalese market and regulatory framework here. I used to get enquiries from Big 4 and mid tier accounting firms mainly from India and China who needed basic tax and FDI related information for their bidding in Nepal. I understand it’s a struggle for them mainly because our government websites aren’t up-to-date, information are scattered, hard to search and are not in English language. This portal has been developed to address that information gap. I also remember interactions with European businesses who communicated with multiple accounting firms in Nepal to understand WHT and PE requirements and was getting different answers. Now in scenario such as that, the resources in this portal can be your basis to understand advise you receive from your lawyer or accountant in Nepal, or even to cross-verify recommendation you receive.
Many questions are drawn from our past advisory experience with clients, primarily what information they look for. This portal is a start, and we will gradually expand our coverage of information we have here, analysis and case studies. Our subscribers will receive fortnightly newsletter with updates in the portal and new resources will be added, all in English language. You will also be able to interact with us through comment section in the posts or connect with us in facebook, twitter and linked-in accounts.
Though this whole idea was driven with my effort, I am glad that we now have a team of experts to support in this initiative who will make sure that the website remains up-to-date and we provide you most accurate information on doing business in Nepal.
Best regards, Dev
