What are the procedures to be fulfilled by an INGO to to obtain work permit and work visa under Social Welfare Act?

Foreign employment is not a general but an exceptional, provided that in some instances expats are allowed to work in Nepal on the basis of an agreement entered with Government of Nepal. International Non-Government Organization [INGO] established in Nepal may depute an expat as mentioned in the Agreement [either General Agreement or Project Agreement] entered with the Government of Nepal. As like in business sector [profit making] foreign expat appointment via publishing a vacancy announcement is not a common practice. In INGO sector foreign expat get work permit and a working visa as per the provision provided in the General and Project Agreement.

Basically in INGO sector foreign expats can be appointed under two category;

  1. Country Representative
  2. Other [General] Expat

Both routes are discussed in detail below.
